In today’s world, turning your home into a homestead is one of the most practical, yet radical acts.
The true reward of this choice, which begins as a choice in language - ‘I live in my home’ vs. ‘I live on my homestead’ - goes far beyond food security, biodiversity, and resilience. It transcends building good soil, thinking in systems, and noticing patterns. The prize isn’t the big juicy strawberry, or your first chestnut. The true reward is the freedom to be guided by and in relationship with a place. It is the land-lead journey of finding yourself in a wonderfully messy tangle with your environment. It is living with intention. But, it is a huge bonus that intentionality tastes like a big juicy strawberry in June.
My area of expertise is low-to-no cost methods for converting lawns into productive garden spaces using hand tools and upcycled materials. I spent six years using permaculture principles to convert our lawn into a super diverse and abundant space that sustains both my family and the land. I’d love to help you do the same.
